Gabaldon Horse Campground

This campground is LIMITED TO CAMPERS WITH HORSES or stock animals.

Gabaldon Campground is situated amid spruce trees at the foot of the Mount Baldy Wilderness. Trails connect the campground to the wilderness via the East Baldy Trail (Trail #95). Horse back riding, hiking, fishing, bird watching, and wildlife viewing are available in the nearby area. The campground is named for Juan Gabaldon, who retired from the Forest Service after working on many of the trails in the area. The campground is a perfect spot to relax after a day's ride.
Tents, trailers and motorhomes up to 16 foot are allowed.

 Some More Things to Know

This campground is limited to campers with horses or stock animals.
Provide feed for you animals (weed free is preferred).
No water for horses at the site. Campers can haul water from the Big Lake area.
Remove and scatter horse waste.
Do not tie stock to trees. Use corrals or picket lines.
Keep stock away from streams unless drinking.
No dump station provided.
Please do not drain wastewater onto ground.
Utility hookups are not available.


 Directions

Hwy 260 Between McNary and Springerville. Off State Road 273, just east of Phelps Trailhead and near Colter Creek, on the edge of Mt. Baldy Wilderness.
