With more than 500 miles of the Colorado River either running through the state or forming its border, Arizona has plenty of river recreation. The Colorado River offers spectacular canyons filled with cascading whitewater to peaceful smooth water meandering through wildlife refuges. Dams along the route create many canyon walled lakes, most notably, Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Lake Havasu.

Flagstaff Population: 55,000
Flagstaff is a convenient central location for visiting the major attractions of northern Arizona. It is an attractive city surrounded by national forests and offers plenty of lodging and dining opportunities. It is a mountain retreat from the Phoenix heat in the summer and a wintertime playground.

Fredonia Population: 1,400
Fredonia mainly serves as a travelers stopping off point for those exploring the Arizona Strip or headed to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Lake Powell Population: 0
Lake Powell is a vast body of clear blue water beautifully contained within tall orange-red cliff walls. Thousands of snaking finger canyons run from the main canyon and beg exploration. Houseboating, power boating, water skiing and fishing are all popular, as is camping along its nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline.

Page Population: 5,000
Page was born in the early 1960's with creation of Lake Powell. It now serves as a base town for those visiting that wonderful body of water. The young town doesn't have much character, but it does offer lots of accomodations, some restaurants and plenty of fast food.

Williams Population: 3,000
Williams, Arizona is 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon, but plays more than a supporting role to the Grand Canyon. Surrounded by national forest, it has plenty of its own recreation available.
