The Grand Canyon offers superb hiking opportunities for both the avid adventurer and the occasional sightseer. Several trails drop down into the canyon for great overnight backpacking trips. You can also just go part way down and back up for a challenging day trip. There are also numerous easy trails along the North and South Rims that are relatively flat and provide nice views out over the canyon.

Bright Angel Point Trail Easy

The BRIGHT ANGEL POINT TRAIL offers a short half mile (1 mile round trip) hike with a great view of the canyon.

The Bright Angel Trail begins just west of Bright Angel Lodge and descends all the way to the bottom of the canyon at Phantom Ranch along the Colorado River. It offers spectacular views of the canyon.

East Rim Trail Difficult

Grandview Trail Difficult
6.4 mile roundtrip 3- 4 hours
The Grandview trail is a very steep trail leading to Coconino saddle, 2 miles (round trip), and Horseshoe Mesa, 6.4 miles (round trip). The unmaintained trail is tougher than the Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails and is recommended for experienced desert hikers.

Havasu Canyon Intermediate

Deep in the heart of the Grand Canyon lie the majestic waterfalls of Havasu Canyon! The Havasupai Indians call this their home and have lived hundreds of years here adjacent to the blue-green springs that create the tumbling waterfalls. The setting is absolutely stunning.

Hermit Trail Difficult
6.5 mile roundtrip 6-8 hours
The Hermit trail offers a challenging hike to Santa Maria Springs, 4.5 miles (round trip), and Dripping Spring, 6.5 miles (round trip). This unmaintained trail is steeper, rockier and more difficult than the Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails.

The Transept Trail follows the canyon rim from Grand Canyon Lodge to the North Rim Campground.
