The Hassayampa River is unique; it spends most of its 100-mile length underground. Most river "crossings" involve walking over a dry bed. Within the Hassayampa River Preserve, however, the river comes above ground and the result is nothing short of an oasis. Over 280 species of birds have been spotted here, including the very rare Black Hawk.
