Oakland - Tourist Attractions / Parks
Oakland may be a densely packed population center but it has enough cultural attractions and parks to help put it all in perspective. Look for an assortment of art
galleries, gardens and farmers markets between odd and sundry museums like a facility dedicated to Biblical
archeology, hands-on science centers and historic (floating) ships.
Speaking of historic sites, be sure to stop by Jack London Square, the
Eugene O'Neil National Historic Site and the John Muir National
Historic Site. The author, the playwright and the naturalist (respectively) all lived
here and Oakland remembers their legacy thus. As part of your Oakland outing also consider a stroll around Lake Merritt or parks in the Oakland Hills and a detour north to wander between attractions in Berkeley, home to the University of California, Berkeley.
