You'll have a great view of Ramsey Peak with its wedding cake stack of sheer white cliffs from just about any campsite in this cool mountain air of Ramsey Vista Campground. Campsites here are spread through a stand of medium sized ponderosa pines at the end of the road that once brought miners and equipment to the area of the historic Reef mine and townsite. From the high perspective provided by the campground, Ramsey Peak's tall, layer-cake summit stands above the surrounding landscape as a tempting destination for an overnight backpack or a long day hike. Two major trails leave from the campground to connect to a broader network of trails which lead to some of the most beautiful destinations in the Huachucas. Comfort Spring Trail #109 drops off the campground ridge, first into Carr Canyon and then into Ramsey Canyon known for its lush streamside vegetation and diverse bird population. Carr Peak Trail #107 (not recommended for horses) goes to Carr Peak and the Crest Trail #103. The campground itself provides marvelous views, not only of Ramsey Peak, but of Carr Peak, Carr Canyon and of the town of Sierra Vista and the San Pedro Valley far below, at the base of the Huachucas.
