| The Salt River Valley Region in which Scottsdale sits is known as the Valley of the Sun for good reason -- it is sunny more than 330 days a year. From May through September, temperatures routinely exceed 100 degrees F. and often climb over 110 degrees F. Short-lived, late-day thunderstorms, often accompanied by high winds, occur from July thru mid-September (the Monsoon season). Things start to cool off in October and temperatures are mild from November to April. Scottsdale receives a handful of frost warnings during the winter, but no snow. Temperature inversions over the valley in the winter months can make for some smoggy days.
