Squaw Peak is one of Phoenix’s best known landmarks with its craggy, easily identifiable pinnacle. It has modern picnic areas with restrooms and some nice hiking trails. The Squaw Peak Summit Trail is one of the Valley’s most popular hiking trails. The trailhead is located at the first ramada. A two-hour round trip for many hikers, this trail is a very strenuous hike to the summit. It is 1.2 miles one way with a 1,200 foot elevation gain. The summit of Squaw Peak is 2,608 feet above sea level. Another popular hike is the Circumference Trail, which begins in the parking area at the end of Squaw Peak Drive, near the Apache ramada. Follow the trail as it loops around in a northerly direction and serpentines its way around the base of Squaw Peak.
