If you want to get muddy, or have the tire and log jam wet, a fire hose is available. Rock Hounding - The rugged desert mountains in Millard Country attract rock hounders from around the world. The Antelope Springs area is one of the best places in the world to find trilobites. Gem-quality topaz comes from Topaz Mountain. Sunstone Knoll is the place to find interesting sunstone. Countless other sites yield rare and interesting rocks, fossils and minerals. Golf - Millard County boasts two beautiful public golf courses, Paradise Resort in Fillmore and Sunset View in Delta.
Fishing - The Sevier River and its reservoirs provide good fishing for walleye, catfish and carp. Some perch, bluegill, white bass and other fish species may also be caught occasionally. Small streams flowing out of mountain areas provide very good fishing for trout. Wild (naturally reproducing) trout are found in some streams and are commonly caught using fly tackle or small spinners. Millard County is also close to some of Utah's most popular fishing waters including Fish Lake and Otter Creek Reservoir. Horseback Riding - Horses are very popular in this area. Many residents have horses, and many visitors bring horses to ride in our wide-open country. It is common to see people riding along roadways, even within towns, through the fields surrounding towns and in the nearby mountains and desert. Some horse enthusiasts enjoy racing, and hold race events at various locations and dates throughout the county. Mountain Biking - The Millard County area is an undiscovered paradise for mountain bikers, offering hundreds of miles of roads and trails through wide-open country. Since the West Desert lowlands receive little snowfall and often boast sunny, mild winter days, many roads and trails can be ridden year-round. Caution is needed, however, because of the rugged, remote nature of many parts of the West Desert, and because temperatures can be very cold on winter nights. Hiking/Backpacking - The varied and unusual landforms in the Millard County area provide plenty of opportunity for outstanding day hikes, overnight treks and extended backpacks. Trails follow cascading streams into our forested mountains, into remote backcountry areas. Wild trout, deer, elk and other kinds of wildlife thrive in the streams, riparian zones and forests. Fishermen, hunters, photographers and nature lovers probe these areas to find recreation and solitude. Excellent hiking opportunities exist along these mountain creeks: Oak, Pioneer, Chalk, Meadow and Corn.
Territorial State House State Park & Museum - Utah's oldest existing governmental building is the Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore. In anticipation of Utah's statehood, Brigham Young directed construction of the building as the state's capitol. The Statehouse was to be the south wing of a large domed capitol building in the form of a Roman cross, designed by Truman O. Angell. It is the only portion of that envisioned structure ever built and was finished in time for the December, 1855, meeting of the Territorial Legislature, which was the only full session held in the old statehouse. Cove Fort - During a free, guided tour of Cove Fort you can travel back to the days when travel was by horseback and covered wagon, and discover what sort of accommodations a nineteenth-century traveler could have expected. Little Sahara (Juab County) - The Little Sahara Recreation area is one of the few in Utah that is totally devoted to the OHV recreational sport. The whole recreation site is a giant designated riding area. The recreation area is open year round. The busiest time to visit is in the spring, while the summer heat can be somewhat stifling. Great Basin National Park - Millard County is considered by some to be the gateway to Great Basin National Park. From the sagebrush at its alluvial base to the 13,063-foot summit of Wheeler Peak, Great Basin National Park includes streams, lakes, alpine plants, abundant wildlife, a variety of forest types including groves of ancient bristlecone pines. The park also includes numerous limestone caverns, including beautiful Lehman Caves. Topaz Relocation Site - The internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry during WWII was one of the worst violations of civil rights in the history of the United States. The government and the U.S. Army, citing "military necessity", locked up over 110,000 men, women, and children in 10 remote camps. These Americans were never convicted or even charged with any crime, yet were incarcerated for up to four years in prison camps surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. One such internment camp was Topaz, located near Abraham, Utah. Fishlake National Forest - The Fishlake National Forest in central Utah features majestic stands of aspen encircling open mountain meadows that are lush with a diverse community of forbs and grasses. Hunting, fishing and ATV use are among the most popular forms of recreation enjoyed by forest visitors. A "working forest," the Fishlake National Forest is managed for livestock grazing and timber management.
