Tucson Travel Information
Tucson is Arizona's second largest city and is the hub of activity and
commerce for southern Arizona. It is a clean, modern and attractive
city. The metro area has a population of nearly 800,000 and is home to
the University of Arizona. Near town is renowned Saguaro National Park
featuring that wonderful desert icon, the saguaro cactus. Tucson is
located in a valley at the base of 4 different mountain ranges. Just
northeast of Tucson, the Santa Catalina Mountains rise to over 9,000
feet. They are home to the southernmost ski resort in the United
States. Because of the almost always clear and relatively dark
skies, there are several large telescope installations around southern
Arizona operated by several different entities. The largest of them
Kitt Peak National Observatory west of Tucson offers some public
access. Tucson is located in southern Arizona about 120 miles
southeast of Phoenix It lies at the junction of I-10 and I-19. View Area
