Description

Pass Mountain Loop is the quintessential Phoenix area advanced level mountain bike ride. Remote and rugged, the Pass Mountain Loop offers technical singletrack biking through Sonoran Desert scenery of the Tonto National Forest.

Pass Mountain is an excellent challenge for an intermediate level rider and a fun workout for advanced level riders. Pass Mountain Loop begins within 3500-acre Usery Mountain Park, starting off as a wide and easy trail but don’t be fooled; it doesn’t stay tame for long! Technical climbing and difficult descents define this trail. A ride on the Pass Mountain loop is a foray into remote desert terrain and all riders should seriously consider this factor before undertaking an adventure here. Rescue can be difficult on Pass Mountain Loop and the Sonoran Desert is an unforgiving climate.

Technical sections can on the Pass Mountain Trail may be portaged by dismounting and walking around bigger drops and rock jumbles. Sonoran Desert scenery from the trail is fantastic, with expansive views that improve as elevation is gained. A variety of desert flora and fauna can be observed from Pass Mountain Loop especially in early morning hours when temperatures are cooler.
