Description

Located atop Mingus Mountain at 7,000 feet in ponderosa pines, Potato Patch Campground offers cool summertime temperatures and fairly easy access via a paved and winding mountain road. There is access to the Woodchute Wilderness and Woodchute Trailhead #102, and the historic mining town of Jerome is 8 miles northeast on U.S. Highway 89A.

Potato Patch Campground consists of two loops. Loop A has 28 campsites. Three of the campsites are accessible to the disabled. One campsite is a multiple family unit that has space for four vehicles. Loop B has 12 units designed to accomodate up to 40 foot long Recreational Vehicles. Two of the units are accessible to the disabled. Electricity is available at each camp unit.

Each camp site usually accommodates one vehicle towing a camp trailer plus one additional vehicle (there is a charge for additional vehicle). Vehicles must be parked in space provided on site - not along side the road. Depending on the site, trailers between 22 feet to 40 feet in length can be accommodated.

Basic Directions
From Prescott:
Take U.S. Highway 89 north to Granite Dells, turn right onto U. S. Highway 89A and travel approximately 20 miles to the top of Mingus Mountain. Potato Patch Campground entrance will be to your left at the summit on Forest Road 106.

From the Verde Ranger Station in Camp Verde:
Travel approximately 20 miles northwest on U.S. Highway 260 going towards the towns of Cottonwood and Clarkdale. At the junction of U.S. Highway 260 and U.S. Highway 89A, turn left and follow the paved and winding mountain road through the town of Jerome up to the summit on Mingus Mountain. The campground turnoff will be to your right which is Forest Road 106.

Travel time: Approximately 60 minutes from Prescott or Camp Verde.
