Description

A multiple-use trail. Expect varying types of use, from hiker to horse, bicycle to motorcycle. Popular trail, especially the lower end due to its proximity to Durango. The upper section of the trail follows Hermosa Creek. Fishing is good to fair the entire length. The entire Hermosa Creek area is grazed by cattle. Beaver are prevalent in some streams. Drinking water should be treated accordingly. Bridges across crossings.

Rated fair for brook and rainbow trout.

Basic Directions

1)Lower Hermosa Road. Ten miles north of Durango on U.S. Highway 550. Look for Forest access marking turnoff west to Forest road, Follow 3.8 miles to end of road.

2)Follow U.S. Hwy. 550 north from Durango to Hermosa Park Road at Durango Mountain Resort turnoff, 27 miles. Follow Forest Road #578 (Hermosa Park Road) to trailhead at junction of last and north forks of Hermosa Creek, 9.5 miles from U. S. Hwy. 550.
