Apache Trail National Scenic Byway

Apache Trail National Scenic Byway Apache Trail National Scenic Byway is a 40 mile drive on Hwy 88 from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Dam. A two lane paved mountainous road as you drive from Apache Junction, past the western face of the Superstition Mountains and into the Salt River Canyon at Canyon Lake.

The pavement ends past Tortilla Flat and then winds its way towards Apache Lake which includes Fish Hook Hill,. The route here is a steep unpaved curvy mountain grade that sometimes narrows to one lane. (Mountain courtesy gives uphill traffic the right of way).
